ROLE OF THE TEACHER IN THE USE OF ICT

One of the areas of concern for me is that of the promotion of collaborative learning. ICT does not necessarily encourage collaborative learning because if each student has a computer for use, it may well just discourage collaboration. Moreover, technology has already proven to decrease face to face interaction. Therefore, in the classroom collaboration must be heavily encouraged by the teacher to ensure that it occurs.

As it relates to the  role of the teacher, he or she must move away from merely imparting information or content to one that encourages critical thinking skills, promote information literacy, and nurture collaborative working practices to prepare children for a new work in which no job is guaranteed for life. In addition, the teacher must be the one to separate out quality information from misinformation and identify authentic sources of information for the students.
